Older generations realize the finality of death throughout the process of their own aging from wrinkles to knee pain, but the youths experience it by watching the cherished lives around them slowly decompose. It was hard to catch on at first, but I stumbled upon the realization of the reality of aging by observing each white hair or declining hearing --among other things-- in my parents. We become more desperate to cling onto things we can’t keep, and that is why I will continue to cling onto the hope that I will prolong their lives as long as possible. That is why I firmly desire to apply myself to the practices in Geriatric Pathology. According to the American Geriatrics Society, geriatric care is “focused on the high-quality, person-centered care we all need as we age”, but by my definition geriatric care is life extending care. Professionals in geriatrics are able to give their patients the resources and applications to improve quality of life, and I believe such habits have the ability to let a person extend their time here on Earth. Entering the ISM program, I have the intention of actively seeking out opportunities to become well-versed in this field in order to create a world where everyone has the hope to live an extra day.
