Bylaws - 3/18/24

Thanks to the week-long spring break, I was able to focus my efforts to determine the systemic expectations for the nonprofit organization, specifically for its members.

Due to the fact that the main purpose of the organization is to connect young students with nonprofit organizations, they would undoubtedly need to be informed of standards and protocol that needs to be followed when working with different facilities. These expectations would not only ensure that they are fulfilling their duties, but it would also ensure collaborating organizations that the volunteers can be trusted.

Therefore, I found it necessary to create a number of bylaws that would outline the expectations of a volunteer at an assisted living facility or nursing home. In these guidelines, I expanded upon two realms of standards. The first had to do with dealing with ageism and stereotypes that many young individuals have towards the elderly. Therefore, part of the guidelines touched on methods in which volunteers should communicate with the residents as well as behaviors to avoid. This is done in hopes to reduce any discomfort they may have during the beginning of their service. In addition, it would minimize the challenges that may hinder an ambient atmosphere with residents.

The second major concern was communication and commitment. I expressed how important it was to always maintain contact and scheduling with the institution to ensure that all actions are being done lawfully and morally. More specifically, volunteers would be responsible for logging their visits and having them pre approved by staff at the collaborating facility.
