One realization that I have come to realize is that my success rate in achieving contact with professionals has been significantly higher when contacting them through a phone call rather than email correspondence. This puzzles me due to the fact that I believe it might be easier to establish credibility if you are able to send links with information and evidence to state your purpose rather than confirmation by word of mouth.
This is what led me to completely reconstruct my format of email when reaching out to professionals because I have come to realize that it may be the daunting length of my email that deters responses. Consequently, I reconsidered what the most important and relevant part of my pitch may be such as my enrollment in ISM and interest. I realize that I may have cluttered the page with unnecessary information that could have been shared through follow-up emails, so it became my task to cut out any fluff and try to get straight to the point without sounding too urgent.
Following this reorganization, I participated in another long endeavor to scour for the profiles of professionals in geriatrics that would be kind enough to lend me some of their advice. I sincerely hope that the reformatting is able to better convey my purpose and desires.
