My public showcase of research towards gerontology was this past Friday, and I had to consider multiple revisions in regards to my presentation.
First, in regards to my display board, I wanted to be eye-catching in the center with accessory information towards the sides that I could point to during my explanations. I tried to make wording(other than my title) on the center of the board as menial and possible and created a colorful visual that would be viewable from distances. In addition to this, I made two different sections of my oral presentation.
One was delivered as a general overview of gerontology for those who wanted a quick understanding, and if they showed further interest I would begin giving a more detailed explanation of the information I had found and the work I had done.
I believe that these methods were very effective because I had multiple waves of people coming up to learn about my topic throughout the entire event.
However, one of the more challenging aspects of this sort of interactive process in comparison to a speech was the fact that I was speaking within inches of the audience, so I felt more vulnerable in a way. However, due to the fact that I have much passion for my topic and have done extensive research, I believe that I was able to confidently share information and answer questions throughout the night.
