After getting time to reflect on my accumulation of work during the first semester of ISM, I was able to better organize my thoughts and pinpoint which area of action I wanted to report on for my new and Final Project.
It occurred to me that the pivotal factor of my work on my Original Work was that I was one of few volunteers who were a part of a younger generation who came to interact with the seniors. I then reflected on my previous research regarding the value of intergenerational interactions to reevaluate what role I could play in promoting it. I found this to be essential because the research revealed that intergenerational relationships not only make elderly people more social, but they also allowed for both parties to break down assumptions based on negative stereotypes and decrease anxiety in the seniors about their situation in life.
Due to this reason, I plan to direct more of my research through articles and interviews to learn more about the benefits of allowing younger members of communities to interact with their older counterparts. This way, I can learn more about how I can positively impact elderly people’s lives as well as convince others to take the same initiative.
