I had many plans for progress and visits with the residents at the assisted living facility this past week due to the fact that school would be out for the Thanksgiving Holiday; however, as fate would have it I fell ill and was unable to make said progress. Although the common cold may not be a hindrance for typical activities, when it comes to the fragile immune systems that are typical of elderly people, it is all the more important to keep a distance. Even after my days of initial illness, I thought it would be best to steer clear of the facility in fear that there would be far greater consequences faced by the seniors. However, I still wanted to make sure that they were taking proper care of their plants, so I had day-by-day communication with the activities director at the estate to ensure a routine was being enforced. Even though I was away, I hope they still felt confident in their ability to care for their project.
Although I recovered by the end of the week, which allowed for one visit, I didn’t get the in-person interaction and observations experience that I had planned. This may be a cause for minor set-back, but I’m sure I’ll get back on track with the enthusiasm of the residents and support of the staff.
