Display Board Reflection - 2/12/24

After the gallery walk with the first showcase of my display allowed me to reflect on both my visual and verbal presentation skills.

Particularly, I had much time to reflect on how effectively my board translated my work thus far to the audience, and I learned that there was much to be revised. Primarily, I found that in order to view any of the information on my board, someone would have to get to a very close proximity due to the small text at which point it would be more effective to talk to me in person. However, this would not be beneficial for someone who was simply looking to get a quick overview of my work rather than a full conversation. Therefore, I knew one of the components I would work on for the showcase is to cut down on the wording and enlarge it to some simple and fundamental topics that are straightforward but significant. In addition, I plan on making more use of the empty space to make the board more interesting and attractive to those who are viewing from a distance. This is because an attractive board would attract more companies that I could make connections with in real time.

When sharing information about my work thus far, I also realized that I needed to be better at getting a condensed version of an explanation because a long speech is less conversational and can lose attention as time goes by. Therefore, I need to consolidate my verbal presentation to a few key points as to let any of the audience members ask follow up questions, making the whole experience more interactive and less like a droning lesson.
